Backyard pickleball court dimensions

A backyard court uses the same 20 by 44 foot lines. What changes is the run-off around it. The standard is a 30 by 60 foot pad. If your yard cannot fit that, the lines stay regulation and the margins shrink, which makes it harder to chase wide balls but keeps the game the same. There is no official small or mini court size for adult play; smaller layouts are compromises, not standards.

What the size means for cost

Court builders price by the square foot of pad and surface, so the playing area, not the painted court, sets the price. A minimum 1,800 sq ft court costs $27,000 to $37,800 to build. Building to the preferred 34 by 64 footprint adds 376 sq ft, about $5,640 at basic-pad rates. See the full pickleball court construction cost breakdown. Four of these 30 by 60 foot areas fit on one standard tennis pad, which is the basis of a pickleball court conversion.
